Kamar Yousuf (Kenya)

Kamar is the Coordinator of the Private Sector Unit of the Governance Affairs Office (UN Environment Programme) focusing on reaching out to business and industry major group to involve them in the work of the UN Environment. Kamar Yousuf has more than twenty years of professional experience in environmental and international development issues, including different roles in the United Nations and the World Bank. Her career with the UN Environment started in 2007 as a Programme Officer in the Division of Environmental Law and Conventions working on biodiversity conventions.  In 2009, Kamar moved to another post as the Regional Focal Point for biodiversity and ecosystems related conventions for Africa Region. Her activities included capacity-building in multilateral negotiations; project management, fundraising, proposal-writing and budgeting; monitoring and evaluation.  She was also successful in bringing partners to implement activities in Africa Region, such as Korea Forest Service which supported five African countries (Benin, Ethiopia, Ghana, Morocco, and Tunisia) to promote land restoration and biodiversity conservation by planting trees in degraded areas. Kamar has an MA in International Peace Studies from Kroc Institute of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana; and an MBA from Monterey Institute of International Studies in California.
